Much of the talk at the Goa Ad Fest was about how the recession wasn’t as bad as it might seem. Sir John Hegarty, co-founder and worldwide creative director of creative hotshop Bartle Bogle Hegarty said it was his fifth recession: “I should be wearing a T-shirt that reads ‘It’s my fifth recession’ ...There is no need to worry … I’m still here.” Hegarty’s 10-point presentation was called ‘10 reasons why this is the best time to be in advertising’, but as he ended, he added that there was an 11th point. “Goa is not a bad place to come to, so you should be happy to be in the ad world … where else would you do this (in a recession)?”
