Apropos Shekhar Gupta’s column, “Soft power, hard battles” (October 22), why hasn’t there been even a tiny reduction in Pakistan’s hatred towards India in 70 years? Why have Pakistani artistes, who condemned the Paris terror attacks on social media, never issued a statement criticising the several terror attacks on India? Why don’t they use their soft power to deliver the message at home to stop the hostility?

Indian artistes are publicly voicing their opposition to a legal and voluntary boycott (not a ban) by a cinema trade union of Pakistani artistes working in India. But none of them has ever asked the Pakistani government to stop exporting terrorism or to not ban Indian movies
in Pakistan.
