There is considerable curiosity around the Economic Survey this year as everyone wants to know the surprises Chief Economic Advisor Arvind Subramanian would offer this time around. Apart from extensive data analysis, what apparently prompted many to actually read last year's Survey were catchy phrases such as the JAM (Jan-Dhan Yojana; Aadhaar; Mobile) model. The Survey also used the Mahabharata analogy of the chakravyuha to explain why it is easier to enter than to exit. It also explained that many of the reform proposals of the government were meant to deal with this Abhimanyu problem. The response to the improved look and feel of the Survey was tremendous, going by the number of hits it got on the government's website. Someone gleefully informed that even pirated versions of the Survey were (they still are) available for sale on many search engines. Perhaps the ministry would ensure better supply this time to meet the excess demand.
