A retired civil servant's plan to write his memoirs has taken a hit under the most unusual circumstances. Former coal secretary P C Parakh was among those named in the first information report or FIR filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) last Tuesday as part of its investigation into irregularities in coal block allocation. Several documents and letters that Parakh had collected after a lot of hard work to write his autobiography have now been reportedly whisked away by the CBI officials who had swooped down on his Hyderabad residence to conduct investigations. With those documents gone, Parakh, who had retired at the end of 2005, may find the task of completing the book project difficult. But the publishers have not lost all hope. After this ordeal, Parakh's book may well have a bigger market!
