Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee told junior Information & Broadcasting Minister Mohan Jatua that she wanted him to quit the ministry and look after the party’s organisation — she offered to make him the district president of the party in South 24 Parganas. Jatua sought an appointment with the railway minister and, after touching her feet, said, “I am very happy that you have selected me to carry out this responsibility in the organisation.
I am proud that you think I am capable of leading the party in my district. But …”, the 71-year old former IPS officer continued after taking a deep breath, “… there is so much infighting and chaos in that district unit that, if I try to resolve it, I will definitely die. So, after my death you will again have to search for a new president. Isn’t it better that I stay where I am in Delhi?” Banerjee found some logic in this and decided to appoint someone else as the district president.
