Green debates are never complete without a reference to funding sustainable technologies. When Nobel laureate James Mirrlees, a professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and formerly a professor of political economy at Cambridge, spoke about countries funding green technologies, another Nobel laureate, Yuan T Lee, was quick to say that if he was talking about the US funding other countries, then that would not happen because “Congress will never allow it”. Mirrlees could not but agree with Lee — but added that if the US was getting money Congress probably would allow it.
