The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s membership drive, launched on November 1, requires a person to give a missed call on a specified number. The caller then gets a text message from the BJP, asking him to reply with his name, address, age, email address, and so on. The BJP claims to have added 90 million members until Tuesday, while it received 150 million missed calls. But it is likely that several of these 90 million will turn out to be fake. According to sources, people, who the BJP suspects to be Congress sympathisers, have replied to the BJP's text message with fake names and addresses or even cuss words to embarrass the saffron party. The BJP claims it will soon carry out a verification drive to weed out fake members.
