It’s the season of Diwali Milans or Diwali meets in Delhi. Last week, Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar held a chaat pe charcha and invited party colleagues and the media. It also coincided with Javadekar’s 100 days in the ministry, which he had taken over at a controversy-ridden time and had brought a semblance of consensus and consultative decision-making back to the portfolio. On Wednesday, Health Minister J P Nadda (pictured) held a well-attended Diwali Milan at his residence. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend a Diwali Milan at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters at 11, Ashoka Road in New Delhi, tentatively on November 3. On his previous Diwali Milan appearances, Modi was mobbed by journalists for selfies. The BJP Diwali Milans have also brought a change in the food on offer, which is exclusively traditional Indian vegetarian dishes from across the country. Those invited to Nadda’s event were served preparations of dal (pulses) that are hard to find in Delhi.
