The Congress party paid around a crore rupees to buy the rights of the AR Rahman-Gulzar ‘Jai Ho’ from the Oscar-winning film, and planned to make it the theme song around which its campaign would revolve. A few days after using it, however, the party is now using it less often. For one, some of the party’s backroom managers argued that ‘Jai Ho’ amidst the economic gloom would be akin to the BJP’s “India Shining” campaign of 2004. The BJP’s riposte, “Bhay Ho” (Be scared), may have been another reason.
