The current government's extreme focus on social media has also transformed PIB. From sending occasional updates to journalists, it is now required to send live feeds. So much so that the PIB office now has specially hired staffers to update the Indian government's social media and communication cell. These staffers are mostly youngsters who are hired on contract to live stream every update in any ministry or department of the government on social media platforms, including press conferences, media bytes given by ministers on the sidelines of any event and regular updates.
