The Opposition has frustrated Surface Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari’s attempts to introduce the Motor Vehicles Amendment Bill in the Rajya Sabha. They said the Bill had complications. This was new for Gadkari — he had received rare praise from Opposition members in the Lok Sabha when the Bill was discussed last week and passed unanimously. Gadkari tried in vain to persuade Congress Rajya Sabha seniors like Ghulam Nabi Azad, Ahmed Patel and Digvijaya Singh, but they remained unmoved. There was a sense in the treasury benches that the party was extracting its revenge on Gadkari for Goa, where he and Singh were sent to put in place a government after the Assembly poll results were declared. Gadkari stole the march on Singh.
