The swine flu fear has receded for the moment but auto maker Hero Honda isn’t taking any chances. In place of handshakes, it has now introduced a namaste policy of greeting in all its factories and corporate office. The company management doesn’t confirm or deny the possibility that the new policy, a month-old now, was introduced because of the fear of swine flu, and prefers to say that the idea is just to emphasise its Indian-ness. What’s not explained, however, is why this token of Indian-ness was never practised before, including in the decades when the company, in its earlier avatar, didn’t even have a foreign partner.
