The phrase “paisa bolta hai" (money talks) is common in India as a euphemism for the bribe people pay to get any work done, especially among the public service providers. Now, the Reserve Bank of India has co-opted the phrase as part of a wider education effort on counterfeit currency. “Pehchano paise ki boli, kyunki paisa bolta hai“ (understand the language of money, because it talks), the central bank says on the website paisaboltahai.rbi.org.in. The site gives the specifics of all currency notes that the central bank prints and is aimed at dealing with counterfeit currency.
