Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejaswi Yadav has welcomed novelist Chetan Bhagat and the shooting unit of Half Girlfriend. The film, produced by the novelist and Ekta Kapoor and directed by Mohit Suri, will be shot at a few locations in Patna. Bhagat had written to Yadav seeking cooperation of the local administration to shoot the film adapted from his 2014 novel of the same name about the love story of a Bihar boy. Yadav wrote to Bhagat telling him that he was delighted to welcome the crew and that the film would help promote tourism in the state. He later told journalists, "Earlier people made GangaaJal and Apaharan, which maligned the name of the state." Both the films were directed by Prakash Jha, also from Bihar, who unsuccessfully contested Lok Sabha elections from the state.
