Indian civil servants and economists (and civil servants pretending to be economists) are very agile when it comes to jumping on to intellectual bandwagons. So it is not surprising that the notion of competitive electricity markets have become all the rage. In general the idea is right. There is nothing like a bit of competition to light a fire under complacent corporate behinds.
