Madhoo Pavaskar has played a wide range of roles in his distinguished five-decade long career as a researcher and an independent consulting economist. He is an authority on forward markets and is said to have helped the founder of Financial Technologies India Limited, Jignesh Shah, when he first ventured into the commodity futures exchange business in 2003, before officially joining the group in 2006. But the new avatar of 85-year-old Pavaskar is a little unusual for an octogenarian. At the moment, he is apparently on Twitter busy contesting the claims of victims of the National Spot Exchange Ltd (NSEL) payment crisis, tweet for tweet. His handle @madhoorama, which has his picture, calls the NSEL victims "bogus traders" and speaks of meetings with ministers. Extraordinarily, at 85, Pavaskar has emerged as the most vociferous and effective defender of NSEL and Shah on social media.
