On Friday last week, the entire Chhattisgarh cabinet, senior party leaders and even senior members of state boards left the capital Raipur to make the 290-km journey to Nagpur. A critical political conclave? Depends on how you look at it. These worthies — more than 300 of them, it turned out — were all attending BJP President Nitin Gadkari’s son’s wedding reception in the Orange City. Indeed, most of the ministers and leaders left for Nagpur on Thursday ostensibly to lend Gadkari a helping hand. After all, such occasions to demonstrate loyalty do not present themselves too often. And if the BJP president is happy with his son’s wedding, so are the leaders from Chhattisgarh.
