Along with Opposition politicians, the other group that is delighted with the revelations about the Robert Vadra-DLF deals is botanists. As one of them pointed out, never before have botanical references and taxonomical names been fodder for current news. A fortnight back Prime Minister Manmohan Singh reminded the nation that “money does not grow on trees”. But then, the value of the property that Vadra bought in DLF’s prestigious project Magnolia, named after an exotic tropical flowering plant, grew exponentially. In the other DLF property involving Vadra, Aralias, the soaring value was almost contrarian. Aralia refers to a family of tropical plants that don’t grow very tall, but the prices of this project zoomed beyond expectation. This itself would be enough reason for “mango people” in a “banana republic” to be envious, as the Gandhi son-in-law ranted on his Facebook.
