Prime Minister Narendra Modi's affinity for social media and the new government's push to adopt it seems to have paid off. This week, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) sent out a self-congratulatory message to the effect that the number of followers of its Twitter handle had crossed 3,00,000 and it said the bulk of the additions came in the last three months. Considering that it took PIB's Twitter handle, which started in December 2010, about 17 months to reach 1,00,000 followers, this surge can be attributed partly to the "Modi wave" that gathered momentum from May 2014 onwards.
