January 8 is a day of celebrations in North Block since two secretaries — Finance Secretary Ashok Chawla and Revenue Secretary PV Bhide — share the same birthday. There is, though, a year in between them — Bhide, who is to retire this year, was born in 1950 and Chawla in 1951.
