Sitaram Yechury, the senior Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader in the Rajya Sabha, put forth various arguments in support of the Opposition's demand to sack the errant Union Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti for using abusive language at a party rally in the capital. The Marxist leader drew the attention of the members of the House to his own name "Sitaram". "My parents named me," he said, "I had no hold over my naming. But by calling all of us 'illegitimate' the minister has also called Sitaram... me... illegitimate. All the 'punya', the blessings you have earned as devout Hindus, have been washed away by that one expletive."
