K Sankaranarayanan, who resigned as Governor of Maharashtra on Sunday, was once requested to inaugurate a religious function. The time for the inauguration came and went but there was no sign of the Governor, who had presumably been delayed by affairs of state. The person who was to conduct the function, an elderly spiritual person from Sankaranarayanan's home state, eventually asked why they weren't starting. He was told that they were waiting for the Governor, upon which he innocently asked who that might be. When informed that it was K Sankaranarayanan; he said, "Oh...let's start then, I'm sure he won't mind". They did. And he didn't.
