Why Sept 17 is 'auspicious'

During the opening address at a conference last Thursday, Minister of State for Finance Jayant Sinha listed two things, which according to him, made the day auspicious. "Today is indeed an auspicious day," he said. "It is Ganesh Chaturthi, India's most important festival, and it is Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 65th birthday." Sinha repeated that observation as he welcomed Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley at the event. A few of those who attended the conference wondered why he left out one more birthday from that list - that of M F Hussain, counted among India's most charismatic artists. That day, internet search giant Google paid tribute to Hussain with a Google doodle.
