Opposition parties may differ on their choice of candidate for the prime minister's post. The Left (especially the Bengal faction) is known to be soft on Pranab Mukherjee. But the current finance minister received an unexpected endorsement from BJP leader Yashwant Sinha. Criticising Mukherjee’s Budget proposals at a meeting in Kolkata recently, Sinha added, “I have great sympathy for Pranab babu. He is the best prime minister the country has never seen. I hope he becomes prime minister one day.” Coming from a former finance minister, that is praise indeed.
