What is an e-filing vault?

We file our income tax returns through the income tax department’s website, www.incometaxefiling.gov.in, where we have an account. This account contains crucial information about us such as our PAN, address, bank details, and so on. An e-filing vault adds an additional layer of security to the e-filing account and keeps all the information stored within it secure.

How can you deploy an extra layer of security?

Go into your e-filing account, then go to ‘Profile setting’, and then 'e-filing vault-higher security’. The advantage of using the e-filing vault option is that it provides two-factor authentication. Even if someone gets hold of your user ID and password, they will not be able to log into your account. You can reset your password using this more secure approach.
