Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Tuesday said the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)'s victory in Delhi Assembly elections would not impact the Punjab politics.

Talking to media on the sidelines of a private function in Ludhiana, Badal said the AAP managed to form the government in 2013 also, “but everyone knows what happened later”.

Badal further said the AAP's victory was confined to only national capital and subsequently these political developments would not have impending repercussions on Punjab politics.

Badal said the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) would introspect of all the factors responsible for its defeat in Delhi at a party platform.

On whether the AAP would be contesting the 2017 Assembly elections in Punjab, Badal categorically said, “In our Indian democratic system, all political parties have the right and were at liberty to contest these elections.”

He also said the AAP had also contested the 2014 general elections across the country.

He said the SAD-Bharatiya Janata Party alliance has always worked for the welfare and overall development of the state and that was why people of Punjab have supported it.
