The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) on Tuesday dubbed Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav's decision to announce free distribution of smart phones from latter half of the year as a terrible idea while advocating that the Samajwadi Party Government should focus on core issues instead of showing false dreams to the people.

BSP's Sudhindra Bhadoria said one can't talk about a digital age when half the people are dying of hunger and many are stuck in floods.

"What kind of a digital age is this? We have to ensure we tackle core problems. Akhilesh is showing false dreams to the people," he told ANI.

The BSP leader further alleged that the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister is at the moment running short of ideas, which in fact would enable upliftment of the common man.

"The background of UP is that a number of farmers have committed suicide, the youth are unemployed, there are a number of rape incidents which come in the limelight, health and education sectors are in a bad shape. Under such circumstances, this is a terrible idea," he said.

Bhadoria also took a jibe at Akhilesh's proposal for building the Taj International Airport at Saifai, saying the state government instead of wasting money on this project should have used the same on building industries which would have benefitted the common man. "Akhilesh Yadav is running short of ideas now and the public of UP will not vote for him this time," he stated vehemently.

The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister had earlier announced free distribution of smart phones from latter half of the year, a move that replicates the Samajwadi Party's experiment of promising free laptops to the students ahead of 2012 assembly polls.

In 2012 elections, the Samajwadi Party had secured complete majority and one of its main poll promises was distributing free laptops to the students.

The phone will have a detailed app through which all information about the state government using audio-visual and text will be provided to people.

According to a release, the beneficiaries will be selected in a transparent manner.

The Uttar Pradesh Government's proposal assumes significance as the state goes to polls next year.
