Samajwadi Party dissident and Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh and Rampur MP Jaya Prada joined the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) on Monday.

The RLD, which is headed by Union Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh, will contest the 2014 general elections as an ally of the Congress-led UPA.

Amar Singh said that Uttar Pradesh should be divided to develop the region.

"Development in U.P. is not possible without dividing it," he maintained.

He recalled the praiseworthy contributions of Chaudhary Charan Singh in the development of the country.

Both Amar Singh and Jaya Prada were expelled from the Samajwadi Party in 2010 for indulging in activities inimical to its political interests and damaging its image.

Later, Amar Singh formed the Lok Manch and contested for 360 Assembly seats in UP in 2012. However, he could not win the elections.
