Arun Jaitley meets Mamata over state's financial dues

Says Banerjee CM has given him a letter of outstanding amounts under central schemes which the state is entitled to

Union Finance minister Arun Jaitley today assured that the government would look into West Bengal’s financial dues under various central schemes, following a meeting with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee here.

“The chief minister has given me a letter of the outstanding amounts under the various (central) schemes which the state is entitled to. We are certainly going to examine it,” Jaitley told mediapersons after meeting with Banerjee at the state secretariat here.

Jaitley assured that the matter will be taken up during West Bengal finance finister Amit Mitra’s visit to national capital scheduled for later in the month.

“The finance minister (Mitra) is coming to Delhi and we will call the departments concerned handling the schemes so that the dues of Bengal government can be looked into,” he added.

Incidentally, the first meeting with chief minister Mamata Banerjee today took place at a time when investigations into Saradha scam by several central agencies is at its peak and several members and persons linked to TMC are being summoned in connection to the scam.

Jaitley is on a two-day trip to the state. He will be attending a party meeting here tomorrow apart from attending some other functions.
