 "Bahuguna favours creation of smaller administrative units")
Unveiling a statue of his father Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna, along with Governor Aziz Qureshi, at Srinagar yesterday, the Chief Minister said efforts are afoot to create smaller administrative units in the state as it will pave the way for quicker resolution of people's grievances.
He announced that Rs 50 crore would shortly be released for flood control measures in Srinagar and the foundation stone of an NIT in Sumadi would soon be laid.

Calling Srinagar the central point of trade, education and tourism in the state, Bahuguna said that he has called the Nagar Palika president (Srinagar) to Dehradun on December 7 for a meeting with the Urban Development secretary over the problems of the town.
Remembering his father on the occasion, he said for the former Uttar Pradesh CM politics was not just another career but a means to serve the society.
Describing him as a multilingual person who shared a strong bonding with labourers, daily-wage earners and the masses in general, Bahuguna said his father's progressive views continue to inspire him to serve the people of the state to the best of his ability.
Talking about the work of the late Uttarakhand leader, the Governor said Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna gave equal rights to all sections of society while also promoting religious tolerance for the formation of a progressive country.
Qureshi also remembered the steps taken by the Congress veteran for the welfare of minorities.
The Governor also presented a cheque of Rs 70 lakh to Vijay Bahuguna as a contribution from the Red Cross Society in association with the Governor of Andhra Pradesh towards the Chief Minister's Relief Fund for rehabilitation of people affected by the June calamity in Uttarakhand.
