The party leadership wants to concentrate its election preparedness in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Maharashtra which constitute for 168 Lok Sabha seats. While Uttar Pradesh has 80 Lok Sabha seats, Bihar has 40 and Maharashtra has 48 Lok Sabha seats.
Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi, who was recently chosen as the chairman of the election campaign committee, is worried about BJP’s performance in Maharashtra because Gopinath Munde, deputy Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, and Nitin Gadkari, former BJP President, are not on good terms.

“The highlight of the parliamentary board meeting was that L K Advani and Sushma Swaraj, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, were all present. Advani had resigned from all party after the elevation of Modi. But during the meeting Advani heard all the suggestions patiently and even contributed with some suggestions,” said a senior BJP leader after the three hour long meeting.
During the three hour long meeting of parliamentary board members and general secretaries, senior leaders of the party were livid against the alleged use of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to target Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi and former state home minister Amit Shah in the Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case. CBI has submitted a chargesheet against seven police officers and the role of Intelligence Bureau (IB) is also under scrutiny of CBI investigators.
“The government has decided to target Gujarat’s political leadership and police officers by using CBI against them in the case. CBI has said in the chargesheet that report on Ishrat Jahan was prepared by Intelligence bureau in Delhi so the investigators will have to answer who generated those reports of her being a member of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), how were the weapons sourced and who funded the entire operation conducted by the Intelligence Bureau,” said a senior leader who present in the parliamentary board meeting.
Senior leaders of the party were also annoyed with the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government move to bring an ordinance on food security. BJP leadership is of the view that they will move amendments on the Bill when it comes for discussion in the Monsoon Session of Parliament and it will support the union government on the Bill only if the amendments are accepted the by the government.
In an effort to prepare for assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Delhi and Mizoram along with the preparations for Lok Sabha elections, BJP leaders have decided to select party workers from all Lok Sabha constituencies and train them to get voters to polling booth.
“BJP is preparing a vision document for the general elections and also a comparative study of the performance of Congress ruled state governments and BJP led state governments in the country. We will circulate this document in every state and it is for the people to decide which party they want to choose in the Lok Sabha elections,” the BJP leader added.
