BJP used social media to spread lies: Gujarat Congress president

Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Arjun Modhwadia today slammed the BJP, saying it had opposed the advent of computers, and now had used it through social media to spread lies. Speaking at a felicitation programme of students here today, Modhwadia said that when former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was trying to introduce computers in India, many political parties opposed it and called for a Bharat Bandh.

He said that those parties who opposed the advent of computer technology are the ones making optimum use of it, "even for spreading lies".

"They claimed that Rajiv Gandhi's dream of bringing computer revolution will take away jobs of youth... and those who once opposed it, are now in power. Ironically, they are the ones who used technology more than anyone else, even for spreading lies (through social media)," Modhwadia said.

"They were the ones who floated slogans like 'Acche Din Aayenge' and 'Bahut Padi Mehngai ki Mar, Abki bar Modi Sarkar' on social media aggressively. Technology is now available on your fingertips. We will remain indebted to Rajivji for that," he said. As of Vijay Rupani's choice as BJP candidate for Rajkot West, he said "Rupani is a candidate of BJP high command, not of people. Our candidate will be chosen by people."
