Trinamool Congress today alleged that there was a 'nexus' between BJP and CBI to malign the party and its chief Mamata Banerjee ahead of the Assembly by-polls in the state.

"There is a nexus and a conspiracy which is going on to malign Trinamool Congress and our party supremo Mamata Banerjee, who is the most honest leader of the country, before the by-polls," prominent TMC leader Partha Chatterjee said. Chatterjee also alleged that the 'nexus' between the two was also aimed at 'politicising' the Saradha scam probe.

"The way things have been politicised by the CBI is a shame and a day will come when the truth will come out. If they are taking about chit fund then we also need an answer to the question about where the huge money that was spent during the BJP's election campaign came from," he said. He said measures should be taken to return the money of all the duped investors who lost their money in various chit funds from 1980s.

Chatterjee's outburst came after state Congress president Adhir Chowdhury questioned the silence of Trinamool Congress leadership on the arrest of Rajat Majumdar in the Saradha Ponzi scam. Chowdhury also said that days were not far off when several top TMC leaders would be arrested by the CBI in the Saradha case.
