The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is all set to close the preliminary inquiry against Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, after it failed to find any evidence against him in a case related to corruption, money laundering and disproportionate assets. The probe was initiated two years ago.
"We have completed our inquiry and have not found anything against him. There are some matters, which are out of our jurisdiction," said a senior CBI official. "The matter is more related to the income tax department," the official added.
The CBI statement came a week after the Delhi High Court had asked the agency to file a fresh status report in the case. The case pertains to Singh's previous tenures as the chief minister and union minister.
