Congress demands CBI probe into Saradha chitfund scam
It also demanded that the state government should see that Aadhar cards were speedily distributed to the people
Press Trust of India Kolkata The West Bengal Congress today sought a CBI probe into the multi-crore Saradha chitfund scam and other ponzi schemes, alleging that "efforts were made to shield the perpetrators of the fraud."
Leader of the Congress Legislature Party Mohd Sohrab alleged that the way the ruling Trinamool Congress government handled the Saradha issue, "it seemed that efforts were made to shield the perpetrators of the fraud."
"The depositors are being compensated with public money and an immediate CBI probe should be ordered," he told reporters here after a CLP meeting.
The Congress also demanded that the state government should see that Aadhar cards were speedily distributed to the people, the Food Security Act implemented and steps taken to check price of essential commodities.
He also criticised the state government for "deteriorating" law and order and rise in atrocities against women in the state.
