The Congress on Saturday used Arun Shourie's criticism to attack the National Democratic Alliance dispensation, insisting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's former "conscience-keeper" had reinforced the Congress's belief.

"Arun Shourie, BJP insider and Modi's former conscience keeper, has confirmed what the Congress has steadfastly maintained. The Modi government's signature style has been unilateralism, autocracy, subjugation of institutions and directionless governance…the PM may be a good event or headlines manager but India's diversity and pluralism requires a government that feels for the suffering of its deprived and poor than mock at their misery, which is being done by the BJP in its arrogance of power," said Randeep Surjewala, the Congress's communications department in-charge.

He lamented that the "final sufferer of this parochialism is the painstakingly-built growth story of India".
