The Congress party’s chief ministerial candidate for Punjab, Captain Amarinder Singh, on Saturday said he would on Sunday make a “big announcement” for the youth of the state.

The announcement will be made in the presence of thousands of youth. Carefully crafted, according to Singh, the initiative will empower the youth of Punjab with growth opportunities within the state and outside.

Singh extended an invitation to all at Chandigarh’s Beant Singh memorial at 4.30 pm through his tweet that said: “Making a big announcement for the youth of Punjab tomorrow! Be there at Beant Singh Memorial, by the lake, Sector 42, Chandigarh, 4:30 PM.”

The announcement comes after the party’s successful campaign for farmers, ‘karza kurmi khatam, fasal di poori rakam’, in Punjab.

A third of Punjab’s population is aged between 18 years and 35 years and will be a major chunk of voters in the coming state Assembly polls.

Punjab is to witness a triangular battle among the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janata Party combine, the Congress party and the Aam Aadmi Party in elections scheduled for early 2017.
