Darbha incident to turn Chhattisgarh Assembly session stormy

The state government would utilise the five-day session to table about half a dozen bills related to welfare and development schemes

The last session of the third Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly will start on Monday with Opposition Congress planning to storm the business on the issue of Darba Naxal incident that killed its key leaders on May 25.

The five-day session would start on Monday and would be adjourned sine die on Friday. This would be the last session of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly. A new Assembly would be constituted in December as the state goes to polls in November this year.

The concluding session of the present Assembly would be on the spotlight. Literally, not because of group photographs and the farewell, but the Opposition Congress strategy to storm the business on the issue of Darba Naxal incident.

The party would take the final call on its strategy on Monday after legislature party meeting.

The Opposition leaders had however hinted that they might opt to disrupt the proceedings during the entire session or even boycott the business.

On Monday, the House would assemble at 11 am to pay tribute to Congress leaders killed in the Naxal attack, and others who passed away during the intervening period of two sessions. Besides former Union minister V C Shukla, Congress president Nandkumar Patel, 30 people were killed in the attack.

Of the Congress leaders killed in Darba incident, Congress president Nandkumar Patel was the sitting member of the Assembly. Another Congress leader Uday Mudaliar was a former member of Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly. The state government would utilise the five-day session to table about half a dozen bills related to welfare and development schemes keeping in view the December state polls. The first supplementary budget demanding Rs 2,000 crore would also be tabled during the session.
