Days after shutting the doors on more allies, DMK President M Karunanidhi today named the front led by his party as Democratic Progressive Alliance and vowed to mobilise the people across the country under "secular front".

Addressing a meeting of alliance parties' leaders at DMK headquarters here, he said the front -- comprising VCK, MMK, IUML and Puthiya Tamizhagam -- will be called DPA and it would take forward a mature and decent political campaign for the April 24 Lok Sabha polls.

DPA's campaign strategy should be honest, straightforward and without maligning others and the front was forged with the aim to uplift the poor and downtrodden, Karunanidhi said in the meeting convened to discuss DPA's poll strategy.

"Our argument should be who gets majority in Parliament? Whether those from secular parties or not," Karunanidhi said.

All efforts would be made to implement suggestions to ensure DPA's victory and "let us hoist a flag of victory and mobilise people of not just Tamil Nadu but from (all over) India under a secular front," he said.

The 90 year-old leader said that he may not be able to travel to all places for campaign on account of his health but would adopt other strategies to make up for his possible absence.

The DMK patriarch is already in microblogging site twitter, known by the handle @kalaignar89.
