"The economic disaster through which the country is passing is simply intolerable .... The country is passing through a nightmarish situation with price rise haunting the people like never before," the chief minister said in a Facebook post. Banerjee, a former UPA ally, said "from petrol to onions, from diesel to dollar, from fertilisers to day to day expenses, prices are skyrocketing."
Stating that the economic security of the common people was at stake, she asked "Is it a product of the so-called reforms and activities being pushed by the Government at the Centre in view of the ensuing Lok Sabha election?" "The country cannot be run like this," she said and questioned whether it was political gimmickry to satisfy some political parties at the expense of the common people.
"Where is the leader of the country to save the people from economic onslaught and the internal and external security threats?" Banerjee asked. "As a citizen, I feel proud of my country. That is why, I am sharing my grave concern with the people of my country," she said.
