The party announced the largest number of candidates from Maharashtra (10), followed by Madhya Pradesh (6), Haryana (5), Rajasthan (3) and one each from Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir.
Mahatma Gandhi’s grandson, Rajmohan Gandhi, who has been fielded by the party from the East Delhi constituency, is set to take on ex-Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit’s son, Sandeep Dikshit from the Congress. Gandhi had joined the party last week.
Right to Information activist Muzaffar Bhat has been chosen to contest from Srinagar, currently represented by National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah.
Party worker Bhagawat Singh Rajput has been fielded from the Vidisha seat, currently held by senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sushma Swaraj.
Former BJP MP Rajan Sushant, who had joined AAP a few days ago, would fight from Kangra in Himachal Pradesh.
The party has so far announced 50 candidates. The first list had featured names such as ex-chairperson of Royal Bank of Scotland Meera Sanyal, activist Medha Patkar, senior Supreme Court advocate H S Phoolka and party leader Yogendra Yadav.
The party has put up the names of these candidates on its website for five days and invited feedback from the public on them.
