A jail trail of former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraff has been reportedly ordered in the Lal Masjid murder case.

The former dictator has been alleged to be involved in the murder of a cleric and his mother during the 2007 operation.

Sources in the police and administration said that the request for the jail trial was made in view of threats to the former president by militant outfits, which have planned to assassinate him, Dawn News reports.

According to the report, police sources have claimed that the Aabpara police refused to collect evidence and record the statements of witnesses against Musharraf in connection with the killing of the Lal Masjid cleric, Ghazi Abdul Rasheed and his mother, Sabiha Khatoon.

Later, the Lal Masjid Shuhada Foundation and complainant Haroon Rasheed sent a letter to the inspector general of the police to hand over the evidence to SHO Qasim Niazi.

A spokesman for Lal Masjid Shuhada Foundation, Ihtesham Ahmed said that the SHO and the investigating officer had deliberately refused to receive evidence and record their statement to give benefit to Musharraf adding that they have proofs against the former president to establish his guilt in the 2007 Lal Masjid operation, the report added.
