CPI[M] General secretary Prakash Karat today said that the supreme court direction  for the right to cast negative votes in elections is unfortunate,  while CPI state secretary Pannyan Raveendran reacted that this would make the voting process more complex.  Quickly reacting to the media persons at Thiruvananthapuram,  Karat said that there should be a complete electoral reform and his party demands this.  In a democratic set up parliament should consider and take decisions on  such reform issues and make relevant legislations.

Unfortunately it is the Supreme court to take such decisions.

CPI[M] is for a complete electoral reforms. The apex court decision is only about   ‘no vote’ which is only a minor aspect of it. There are factors which the parliament should consider, unfortunately the court is taking such decisions., he added.

CPI also demanded to convene an all party meeting to discuss various issues on electoral reforms. RSP national  general secretary T.J. Chandrachoodan said that Supreme court has exceeded its limits as legislature has the powers to make changes in the electoral process.
