Opposition parties in Maharashtra on Sunday boycotted the customary tea meeting convened by Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on the eve of the monsoon session of the state legislature. However, Chavan, after chairing a cabinet meeting, said the government was prepared to discuss "all issues" in the assembly.

The three-week monsoon session of the state assembly will start here on Monday.

Opposition leaders Eknath Khadse and Vinod Tawde of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Subhash Desai of the Shiv Sena and Bala Nandgaonkar of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) said they would raise corruption allegations against the Congress-led government in the assembly. "The government is embroiled in series of corruption cases and opposition will not spare it," Khadse said.

The decision to boycott the customary tea meeting was taken at their joint meeting held at Khadse's residence.

Khadse further expressed displeasure over the government's move to give a bounty of Rs 10 crore only to the ruling party members, neglecting the opposition members in the legislature. ''We have been protesting the government's decision in the last two sessions and will further take on the government on this issue during the monsoon session. We will expose the government for being partial," he added.

Shiv Sena leader Subhash Desai slammed the government for not being serious in carrying out investigation into the multi-crore irrigation scam. He objected to the government's decision to grant an extension up to December to the special investigation team (SIT) headed by water expert Madhav Chitale, probing the scam.

He claimed the SIT lacks adequate powers.

Moreover, the opposition parties will also raise issues of "deteriorating law and order and rise in illegal constructions".

Chavan told reporters 12 Bills will be tabled in the legislature, including a Bill seeking to check unfair practices like black magic and cheating at the hands of self-styled godmen and tantriks.

He added the government was yet to take a call on tabling the Judicial Commission's report on Adarsha housing society scam and the action taken report in the legislature.
