Minister faces embarrassing situation in LS

Minister Preneet Kaur was today caught in an embarrassing situation in the Lok Sabha when Speaker Meira Kumar and some others had to ask her a number of times to lay the papers she was supposed to.

Kaur, who had earlier tabled papers listed against the name of External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid, was seen engrossed in a conversation with her ministerial colleague M M Pallam Raju when the Speaker called her name to place another set of papers listed in the order paper.

Another of her ministerial colleague, Ranee Narah, rushed to her to tell her that her name was being called by the Speaker. Raju also told her that she has to table the papers listed against her name.

However, Kaur said "but I have already done it",apparently unaware of her name being listed in the agenda.

When the Speaker called her again, she returned to her seat and apologised before tabling the papers.

The episode prompted Samajwadi Party member Shailendra Kumar to remark: "The government does not come (to the House) prepared.
