Mulayam asks leaders to ensure SP win in by-polls

The by-polls will be held on Sept 13 for 11 Assembly and one Lok Sabha seats in the state

Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on Friday asked leaders and ministers to ensure the party's victory in the by-polls, which will be held on September 13 for 11 Assembly and one Lok Sabha seats in the state.

"Netaji (Yadav) has directed us to ensure that all the seats are won by SP," Uttar Pradesh Minister Gayatri Prasad Prajapati told reporters after the meeting.

The meeting was held at the Samajwadi Party headquarters here, in which ministers in charge of the by-polls, were present.

The Assembly by-polls will be held in Saharanpur, Charkhari, Lucknow East, Bijnor, Thakurdwara, Hamirpur, Rohania, Noida, Balha, Nighasan and Sirathu.

The seats fell vacant after the sitting Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) were elected to the Lok Sabha in the general elections.

The seat in Mainpuri fell vacant after the Samajwadi Party chief vacated the seat after winning from Azamgarh.

Senior Cabinet Minister Shivpal Singh Yadav is in-charge of the Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat, where Tej Pratap Yadav is contesting on a Samadwadi Party ticket.

Health Minister Ahmad Hasan, Rural Development Minister Arvind Singh Gope, Basic Education Minister Ram Govind Chowdhury were present at the meeting.
