Promising to protect Muslim culture, tradition and language, Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav today urged members of the community to vote in favour of the party in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.

"I promise to protect Muslim culture, tradition and language and appeal to you all to vote in favour of the party in the Lok Sabha polls," Yadav said while addressing Muslim leaders and clerics at the party's office here.

The SP leader said whether his party remained in power or not he always fought in the interest of the community and would continue to do so.

"SP came to power in the state due to the support of Muslims. The party also needs the community's support in the next Lok Sabha polls," he said.

The SP government in the state would not let communal forces spread their tentacles in Uttar Pradesh and would do whatever was needed to curb them, he said.

"The UP Gangster Act and the NSA will be invoked against those who spread communal tension and such elements will not be spared at any cost," he added.
