Narendra Modi pays tributes to Vallabhbhai Patel on his birth anniversary

Various events will be organised during the week till Nov 6, recalling Sardar Patel's contribution to unification of India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday paid tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 141st birth anniversary.

"Paid tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and recalled his contribution in uniting India and strengthening the cooperative movement," Modi said in a tweet.

Earlier in the day, he paid a floral tribute to Patel at his statue in the heart of national capital at Patel Chowk.

Patel was born on October 31, 1875 at Nadiad in Gujarat.

Modi will also release a Commemorative Stamp at a programme to be held at India Gate later in the day, besides administering Ekta Pledge and flagging off the 'Unity Run'.

A Digital Film on the life of Patel will also be released by the Prime Minister at a programme to be organised in the evening by the Ministry of Culture at Pragati Maidan.

The government in 2015 had decided to observe Sardar Patel Jayanti Day as 'Ekta Diwas'.

As part of celebrations, various programmes will be organised during the week till November 6, recalling Sardar Patel’s contribution to unification of India.

All Central ministers will visit different parts of the country during the week, garlanding Patel Statutes and holding public meetings.
