Former BJP leader Navjot Singh Sidhu will soon join Congress and campaign for the party ahead of Punjab assembly elections early next year. BJP is Bharatiya Janata Party.
Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh, who met Sidhu recently, said the latter will decide if he wants to contest the Amritsar Lok Sabha bypoll.
The seat has fallen vacant after Amarinder resigned from the Lok Sabha recently in protest against a Supreme Court order asking Punjab to share Ravi and Beas waters with Haryana.
Sidhu’s wife Navjot Kaur, former BJP legislative assembly member from Amritsar East seat, recently joined the Congress along with former hockey player Pargat Singh.
“The decision whether or not to contest the Amritsar Lok Sabha bypoll has been left to the ex-cricketer,” Amarinder said, adding, “I met Sidhu and got the impression he is interested in campaigning for Congress in the coming assembly polls.”
