Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday expressed his gratitude to the citizens of the country for their decisive mandate in the Lok Sabha polls. He said his government will make all efforts to fulfill the hopes and aspirations of the people.
"I express my gratitude to the citizens of the country for giving a decisive mandate to the people's representatives," Modi said, addressing media ahead of the first session of the 16th Lok Sabha.
He said: "The people of India have voted in unprecedented numbers, blessed their representatives and elected the 16th Lok Sabha."
The prime minister said: "Today is its first day. I assure the people of this country that in this temple of democracy, every effort will be to meet the hopes and aspirations of the common man of India. My best wishes to fellow Indians."
The first sitting of the 16th Lok Sabha was adjourned Wednesday as a mark of respect to union minister Gopinath Munde who died in a road accident Tuesday.
